By BBN Staff: Meet Davina Sosa, 12, from Santa Elena Town, Cayo. Sosa is the only top performer from Santa Elena and is also the valedictorian of her 2019 graduating class at Santa Elena Primary School.
Sosa shared with our newsroom today how she made it to the top 8th highest scorer countrywide in the Primary School Examinations (PSE).
“ I had to give up my recreation time. I had to study more and leave everything behind so I could study. I wish that there were more people from my school (in the Top 25) but at the same time, I feel glad that I made the school, my family and my town very proud,” Sosa said.
Sosa also offered some advice to students who will sit the PSE next year.
” They have to set their goals and work for it. You have to work to achieve it and study a lot,” Sosa added.
Proud mom, Dona Dougall Sosa told us that the recipe for students success is the unconditional support of their parents.
“ Parents have to be present. Parents have to be there to push their children, encourage them. It is very important to always be there. Drop everything and look after your children. The student has to do his and her part as well… It is important that the child knows that parents are there for them 100%,” Sosa explained.
She also shared her joy and excitement with us, “ I am over the moon. I am so happy. I am ecstatic, I am elated! I am so happy because I know what she is capable of doing. She has a lot of medical issues and with all that, it is a miracle that she has performed so well. God is just blessing her and the blessings continue.. She has been proving herself since Infant 1.”
Sosa is also a member of the Cayo Music School and has performed for many events in her hometown.
Sosa will receive her awards for academic excellence tomorrow in San Ignacio and on Wednesday in Belize City.
BBN extends congratulations to Sosa on her achievements!
