PUP slams GOB for Social Security increases

By BBN Staff: The People’s United Party (PUP) criticized the Government of Belize (GOB) for the recent increase in Social Security contributions, which the party says came about due to the “incompetence” of the United Democratic Party (UDP).

The PUP said that all workers who have contributed to the Social Security scheme should be outraged and that Belizeans should be outraged of what the party feels is blatant political interference on the Social Security Board (SSB).

“The PUP rejects the politicization of the SSB, led by a UDP-appointed CEO who is also a campaign manager for that political party. We have witnessed the pumping of the people’s money into projects and investments which are unjustifiable,” the PUP said.

The party stressed that the UDP has infiltrated the SSB and installed its members such as Prime Minister Dean Barrow’s son Anuar Barrow and Juliet Timbrel, whom they referred to as the UDP’s “enforcer.”

The PUP insists that those charged with the smooth running of the SSB to ensure it benefits the Belizean people have failed and must be held accountable.
