By BBN Staff: The University of Belize honored 1,145 graduates in its June Commencement Exercise held on Saturday, June 15, 2019, at the Belize City Civic Center.
The ceremony commenced at 2 pm with the marching of all graduands by the faculty.
Of the total number of graduates, 762 were females and 383 were males.
This year, 90 graduands completed a Certificate program, 53 a Diploma program, 518 completed an Associate of Arts degree, 468 earned Bachelor Degree, and 16 earned Masters degree.
The University also awarded the Governor General, Colville Young, with its first Honorary Doctoral Degree. He was recognized for his service to Belize.
The Oak Foundation was also awarded the University’s inaugural Medal of Philanthropy Award in recognition for their significant contribution to the University, namely to its Environmental Research Institute.
UB’s President, Dr. Clement Sankat in his address, congratulated the graduating class of 2019 and informed that UB’s 2018-2019 enrollment surpassed the magic mark of 5,000 students.
Sankat also shared that UB’s transformational plan, Vision 2022 is a living one.
“ Our transformational plan, Vision 2022 is a living one and despite the challenges of execution and the sacrifices that are being made, the University of Belize and Belize are beginning to witness the fruits of this very focused effort to lift the University of Belize to another level,” Sanket expressed.
The Board of Trustees, Management, Faculty and Staff of the University of Belize congratulates all graduates on their achievement, and extend best wishes to them as they work to become catalysts for change and development in Belize.
