Deon Bruce still fighting extradition

By Aaron Humes: Deon Bruce was ordered to be extradited by then Chief Magistrate Ann-Marie Smith in 2013 in connection with a murder in Chicago in 2010, but he continues to fight extradition.

 After unsuccessful attempts to overturn the order with an application for judicial review before Supreme Court Justice Courtney Abel, and an application for a writ of habeas corpus before Justice Michelle Arana, Bruce, and attorney Anthony Sylvester appealed to the Court of Appeal.

Bruce is seeking another writ of habeas corpus but the Government argues that there is a pending appeal of the judicial review decision.

The argument is whether the committal warrant signed by the then-Chief Magistrate is valid because it does not properly state what Bruce is being held for, and if so, how it should be remedied.

The Court of Appeal has reserved judgment to a date to be announced.
