Barbecue sale organized to help young warrior’s battle with cancer

By BBN Staff: Saturdays in Belize City is a barbecue lovers dream, with stalls every few blocks, there’s no shortage of grilled chicken, pork and sausages smothered in sauce. But this Saturday, June 22,  barbecue lovers have a chance to satisfy their craving and help a child continue her battle against cancer.

Delilah Arana is the mother of eight-year-old Cordelah Duran, a patient who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (Cancer of the blood) last August.

Arana spoke with Breaking Belize News this morning, explaining that it has been a difficult road for her family financially, emotionally and mentally.

“It has taken a toll on us. some days she is good an others she can barely walk, and can’t eat,” Arana said. “There are days I want to give up, but I can’t because she needs me.”

Arana also said that through the support of friends, her church and the public, they have made it this far, and she remains hopeful that the continued support will take them the full distance, and she will see her daughter’s cancer go into remission.

She is holding the barbecue sale at #55 West Collet Canal. Chicken plates are $7, and ribs lovers can get a plate of ribs for $10.
