By Aaron Humes: The yoyoing of fuel prices continues.
Cuts were announced today by the government to take effect on Friday at midnight. Premium gasoline will decrease by 41 cents from $11.54 to $11.13 per gallon; diesel oil will decrease by 46 cents from $10.25 to $9.79 per gallon; and kerosene will decrease by 11 cents from $7.83 to $7.72 per gallon.
This is the second successive decrease in diesel prices following one on June 3. At the same time, premium prices had risen by 24 cents. Regular gasoline is currently at $10.48, after a 39 cent cut on May 22, almost a month ago.
Compared to prices in the last six months as of December 27, 2018, premium has risen six points and sixty-six cents. Regular is up more than 12.5 percent or $1.17. Kerosene has risen five percent or thirty-eight cents. Only diesel has gone down by four cents or less than half a percent.
The Government says these price changes reflect current demand and supply conditions of crude oil in the international petroleum market and an increase in the production of refined fuel products in the countries from which Belize obtains its supplies. It is monitoring the price movements and supply conditions closely and will work with the fuel industry to safeguard the pump prices paid by Belizeans.
