By BBN Staff:Earlier this week our colleagues at News Five reported that the Belize Telemedia Ltd (BTL) allegedly owed millions of dollars to the Department of General Sales Tax (GST).

“Yes, you heard right, twenty-nine million dollars and B.T.L. continues to rack up unpaid GST debts since 2012,” alleged the report.

Today BTL fired back a press release condemning News Five, calling the report ‘defamatory’ and refuting the claims made.

“BTL has always paid and continues to pay the appropriate GST on a monthly basis,” said the statement. The release insinuates that BTL has not been assessed by the GST Department and as such does not owes any taxes.

The statement ended by categorically denying owing $29 million and claims that the “innacuracy” of the article can be verified by the Ministry of Finance.
