High-school under fire for allegedly neglecting report of inappropriate sexual act by teacher

Posted: Thursday, June 27, 2019. 9:50 am CST.

By BBN Staff: An enraged parent contacted BBN today and made controversial allegations against a high-school in Santa Elena, Cayo. The parent claims that her daughter, who attends the school, was witness to an inappropriate act performed by a teacher there inside a classroom and has been intimidated by the instructor to remain silent on the matter. She further alleges that despite making a report about the incident to the school’s management, the matter has been dismissed and is not being addressed.

The parent explained that the incident stems from a report made by her daughter, who is a 2nd form student at the institution. Her daughter reported to school authorities that she witnessed a teacher masturbating inside the classroom.

When the incident occurred, the child says that she was threatened by her female teacher to not say anything about the incident.

The student is a new transfer of the school and has allegedly been the victim of bullying.

“My daughter has been bullied constantly at this high school. I have been there again and again to report it. The principal has done nothing to help us. My 14-year-old daughter caught her teacher inside the classroom playing with herself. That said teacher threatened my child to not say a word to anyone. So I myself went in to report it. Nothing was done and now my child was in a fight with a bully and was suspended,” the parent explained.

According to the parent, when she went for the child’s report card yesterday, she received a letter asking her to withdraw her daughter from the school.

The parent questioned the reason for the letter and was reportedly approached in an unfriendly manner and that is when a physical altercation ensued between her and one of the school staff members.

“ When I come for report card, I got 2 letters. One that asked me to withdraw my child and the other asking for a payment toward tuition. So I went to ask them to explain why I obtained the letter. However, a member of the school staff started yelling to call the police. I was angry,” the parent stated.

The parent reportedly hit the person and then left the school.

The parent has informed BBN that she will seek to lodge formal complaints on these issues with the Ministry of Education since it is not the first time that such allegations have been made against a teacher at the same school.

Today, we attempted to get a comment from the high school on this issue but our call was put on hold and never picked up. We made several other attempts to get an official comment on the incident. BBN will keep following this story.
