FBI assisting in San Pedro murder investigation

By BBN Staff: Officers of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are in Belize assisting the local police in solving the murder of American cardiologist, Dr. Gary Swank and local tour guide, Mario Graniel.

On Wednesday night, Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams hosted a community meeting in San Pedro. At the event, Williams informed the media of the assistance being received by the FBI agents.

“Our investigation is centered around 2 persons; a male and a female and we have also received assistance from the FBI. They are here in San Pedro. I just left from a meeting with them. They are looking at some of the evidence that we have collected. There are certain expertise that we do not have in Belize and I have ask them to see how best they can assist us with those expertise,” Williams stated.

Christian Espat, 23, the suspect who was wanted for questioning for the murders handed himself in yesterday in the presence of his attorney, Leeroy Banner.  

Authorities continue to investigate the double homicide that has shocked the San Pedro community.
