By BBN Staff: Nationwide concern has been expressed by the Special Envoy for Women and children, Kim Simplis Barrow and the LGBT community following uproar caused by two viral videos yesterday.
The first video shows a fight between a woman and a young man allegedly because of a seat inside a water taxi in Caye Caulker.
The second video is that of a police officer choke holding the young man involved in the altercation. The young man goes unconscious.
The young man has been identified as police officer, Ralph Gillett.
While Gillett was being detained, passengers on the water taxi yelled homophobic comments at him.
While June was widely celebrated as Pride month, Special Envoy Barrow is calling on the police department to provide training on how to keep those in the LGBT community safe.
