Posted: Wednesday, July 3, 2019. 3:44 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Today, Galen University unveiled a new art mural in their Harpy 1 Classroom on its main campus in Central Farm, Cayo.

The mural is the inspiration and vision of the vibrant group of students of Instructor Fernando Cruz and his Art 480 class.

Art students Elise Gillett, Lucille Mendez, Anisa Nah, Flora Choc, Liborio Santos, Christopher Pulido, Tyreek Middleton, Nephi Pott, Dean Rodas, and Nikolai Pulido conceptualized the final design through the guidance and instructions of Cruz.

The mural depicts the world of migration, pollution and the environment which are local and global issues.

Provost of Galen University, Dr. Eve Aird thanked the students and Instructor Cruz for creating their vision into a mural.

Dr. Aird also stated that the work of art by Art class 480 and their commitment to creating the mural inspired by significant issues and their unity is a representation of what Galen University is about.

President of the Board of Trustees, Rene Villanueva was also in attendance at the ceremony.

Villanueva said that the mural tells an amazing story of unity.

“It tells the story of unity which is something that we really need to move in our country. We are divided a lot of times, political, religious, racial and other lines but if we learn that we need each other regardless of what our political, religious or other affiliation. We are one people. We are children of migration, that is how it starts and that is what we are. The purpose of unity is to move our country forward as depicted here,” Villanueva said.

Professor Cruz also expressed gratitude to the students for creating the masterpiece.

“ It is important that we become aware of current issues and eliminate stereotypes about migration, hold capitalist countries responsible for their pollution and educate 3rd world countries against their love for plastics, which has become our biggest environmental nightmare,” a statement from Galen expressed.
