Posted: Monday, July 8, 2019. 8:06 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: A resident of Hattieville Village in the Belize District is detained following a robbery at Buca/Puma Service Station in Belmopan yesterday.

A police report indicates that shortly after 1 pm, authorities responded to a robbery at the service station and when they arrived at the scene, they were informed that a lone gunman had entered the establishment and held up the cashier.

The armed robber then exited the office and robbed 2 gas attendants of an undisclosed amount of cash.

The robber then tried to escape by jumping into a vehicle but was unsuccessful.

He then decided to escape by running but one of the gas attendants pursued him. A struggle ensued between the men and the culprit was shot to the arm by the attendant.

Shortly thereafter, authorities arrived at the scene and took the robber into custody and then to the hospital for medical treatment.

Police recovered a 9 mm gun from the scene.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvette told the media today that the stolen items were recovered.

An investigation is still ongoing.
