By BBN Staff: July 8 marks the 126th anniversary of the signing of the “Spencer Mariscal” treaty establishing the boundaries between Mexico and Belize.
Corozal Town Mayor, Rigoberto Vellos, Opposition Leader, John Briceno, and Orange Walk Town Deputy Mayor, Ian Cal joined officials from Chetumal, Quintana Roo in the ceremony commemorating this historic treaty.
The treaty was signed on July 8, 1893.
The ceremony included a symbolic exchange of flags and gifts.
2019 marks the 2nd year of the celebration and next year’s celebration will be hosted in Campeche, Mexico.
