Placencia residents concerned about clearing of vegetation in “Isthmus” area

By BBN Staff: Residents in Placencia are outraged at the recent clearing of vegetation in the area of the known as the “Isthmus”, the narrowest part of the peninsula by someone alleging to have bought the land.

Residents are saying that the area is too close to the seashore and that clearing the plants in that area will cause harmful erosion to the area. They also are trying to ascertain how the purported landowner managed to buy the plot of land where the clearing happened given its location. Placencia residents say that they are prepared to go as far as protesting to raise awareness about the issue and have the relevant authorities look into the issue.

Breaking Belize News reached out to the Department of the Environment, however, up to this time they have not offered a comment. We will keep following this story.
