American retiree killed in Placencia Road traffic accident

By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating a fatal accident reported on the Placencia Road on Friday evening, July 12.

Police report that American retiree 71-year-old Robert Clark McNeely, a resident of Crimson Park, Placencia, was riding his bicycle on the Placencia Road, between miles 22 and 23, going north around 6:15 in the evening, when he was apparently struck from behind by a white Toyota Hilux going in the same direction.

The men operating the vehicle were identified as 21-year-old construction worker Luis Felipe Flores of San Jose Palmar, Orange Walk, and his father, 48-year-old Procopio Flores, a mechanic from San Jose, Orange Walk.

McNeely, who sustained multiple injuries, was pronounced dead at the Southern Regional Hospital.
