Ministry of Health monitoring dengue cases around the region

Posted: Monday, July 15, 2019. 4:20 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the ongoing dengue outbreak in the region and takes note of the alerts placed by the governments of El Salvador and Honduras referencing the number of cases being documented in those countries.

In Honduras alone, there have been about 30,000 cases of dengue with 75% of cases being classified as severe or hemorrhagic cases.

Deaths have also been reported with 75% of deaths being in the pediatric population.

All 4 health regions in Belize have been asked to be on the alert for further number of cases and to activate further engagement with the different communities in ensuring to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.

The Ministry of Health reminds that prevention is always better than cure!
