By BBN Staff: An American national visiting Belize drowned yesterday after going diving in San Pedro.
According to reports, Steven William Vorhaus, 66, and eight other tourists left on a boat from Ramons Village Resort around 11:45 a.m. yesterday.
They were accompanied by dive master, Ernest Raymond Leslie Jr.
The group was headed to the B&D dive site. When they arrived, they entered the water and began to dive going at a depth of 80 feet.
The group began to re-surface after 25 minutes and Vorhaus signaled to Leslie that he was losing air and would go up back.
Vorhaus continued to go up and then signaled to Leslie that he was ‘ok’.
Leslie continued to dive with the other tourists and when they re-surfaced, they noticed that Vorhaus was missing.
They immediately began to search for him and found his lifeless body at the bottom of the sea.
The body was pronounced dead at the San Pedro poly clinic.
