By Aaron Humes: The offense of ‘failure to display liquor license’ is one that you seldom hear of, but a Chinese businessman of Freetown Road was charged in court for such an offense.
He is 29-year-old Sen Lin Li, a Chinese businessman of Qian Kee Grocery Store located at #106 Freetown Road, Belize City.
Li appeared before Magistrate Emmerson Banner in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to the charge. He told Magistrate Banner that he had his license, but it was inside a folder and not on display to be seen.
Li was fined $25.00 plus a $5.00 cost of court fine of which he was ordered to pay forthwith, in default one week imprisonment.
Earlier this year police began a crackdown on offenses listed under the Intoxicating Liquor Licensing Act such as public drinking, assembling in front of stores selling alcohol; minors buying or selling alcohol or going to nightclubs, and extended hours for licensees selling alcohol. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said this would be done under the supervision of the various municipal licensing board.
