By BBN Staff: Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. of the United States Embassy in Belize, Keith Gilges is celebrating his first year as the Chief of Mission in Belize.
To celebrate his 1 year in the jewel, Gilges went on a tour to the Museum of Belize (NICH) to continue to learn about Belize’s rich history and cultural heritage.
Gilges also took a tour of the Rio Hondo River where he met with Officer Adrian Gilbert Gibson and other personnel to learn more about the Customs Department, Belize Defence Force, and Belize Police Department mechanisms for securing the Rio Hondo that runs between Mexico and Belize.
At the 243rd Independence celebrations at the US Chief of Mission’s Residence in Belmopan, Gilges highlighted several of the most recent milestones as Belize and the United States enjoy 38 years of bilateral relations.
“This 38th year of U.S.-Belize relations was a remarkably productive one. We signed our first bilateral Open Skies Agreement, which will expand opportunities for air travel and commerce. We are cooperating on Belizean and regional border security at an unprecedented level,” Gilges said.
There are around 30,000 US citizens who have made Belize their home, and even more Belizeans living in the US.
The United States Embassy continues with its programs in partnership with the Government and people of Belize to enhance citizen security, improve economic prosperity and good governance.
