Lightning kills cow and calf in Spanish Lookout

Posted: Tuesday, July 30, 2019. 7:45 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Shortly after midday today, a thunderstorm hit Western Belize and was accompanied by lightning and strong winds.

A cow and a calf belonging to Anton Dueck of Spanish Lookout were under a tree when lightning hit the tree and both animals were killed.

Joe Friesen, who is a friend of Dueck and is a leading cattle trader in the area, told BBN that the total value of the 2 animals is $2000.

He also shared with us that a nearby building in Spanish Lookout was also struck by lightning and caught fire.

Residents moved swiftly and managed to contain the fire.

The building was only partially destroyed.
