By BBN Staff: The San Ignacio and Santa Elena Basketball Association (SSBA) in collaboration with The National Sports Council and Child Advisory Body (CAB) this week continued to host its annual youth summer sports camp at the Santa Elena Complex, Falcon Field and Norman Broaster Stadium. The camp currently has over 150 participants, from the twin towns and runs from 8:30 am – 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm for kids and youth ages 5 – 18.

In an exclusive interview, organizer of the camp, San Ignacio Town Councilor Mark O’Brien told BBN that the camp is “creating a positive alternative, promoting unity among youths and children in the twin towns while showing respect for each other and the different sports discipline. It is also geared towards teaching the fundamentals of basketball, volleyball and football, good sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline and good conduct among the participants; all while staying healthy and having fun”.

A closing event for the camp will be held on Thursday, August 1st 2019 at Falcon Field starting at 9:00 am. At the closing event, campers will showcase the skills they have acquired in the different sports discipline during the camp and will be awarded with a certificate of participation. All campers will be wearing their camp shirt proudly advertising the generous sponsors of the camp.

The youth summer sports camp is receiving much support from experienced coordinators, the parents of the campers, the local business community, St. Martins Credit Union, BNE Charitable Trust, BECOL and DIGI.

The 3-week sports camp began on July 15 and will conclude on August 1, 2019.
