Is Belize overcrowded with tourists? – Yahoo Finance says Yes, Belize says No.

By BBN Staff: Usually when Belize is referenced in travel articles it’s to highlight one or more of the amazing aspects of the country that make it a choice destination to visit in the region. However, a piece published on Yahoo Finance described Belize as “overcrowded” with tourists.

“Belize once was overshadowed by Cancun and Cozumel, but it now gets just as many visitors. The Central American country is a popular travel destination for its stunning beaches, barrier reef, Mayan ruins and captivating culture. If you’re looking for getaway deals, you’ll find a better bargain in another Central American country,” Yahoo said in its piece “13 Cheap alternatives to the World’s most overcrowded tourist destinations.”

The article, published this morning, went on to suggest another country for travelers to visit. However, Breaking Belize News (BBN) maintains that there is no substitute for a vacation in Belize. This is a view shared by many of our readers as well as stakeholders in the tourism industry.

Yahoo’s perspective aside, the number of visitors coming to Belize has grown considerably over the last decade, setting or breaking records on an annual basis. The last statistics issued by the Belize Tourism Board, showed that there were almost 285,000 overnight visitors and around 700,000 curiseship visitors to Belize by the end of June 2019.

These numbers, along with steady increases in visitors, solidifies Belize’s place as a top choice for visitors headed to the region. And as the BTB continues to promote Belize and expand tourism market shares in both Mexico and Canada, even more tourists are expected to experience Belize’s unique tourism product in the future.
