NICH issues warning after photos of tourist drinking and peeing at a Maya site goes viral

By BBN Staff: A photo of a tourist drinking a Belikin beer at an Archeological Maya site in Belize went viral on social media today.

Belizean Tour Guides and Belizeans were disgusted at the lack of respect expressed by the drunken tourist at the sacred site.

That is because, there were 2 photos, 1 of the tourist drinking and another of the tourist taking a pee.

The National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) has issued a statement reminding all visitors that drinking alcoholic beverages in the archeological reserves are not allowed.

“Please remember these are sacred sites of historical and cultural importance not only to Belize but the world.”

“Let us show that respect by comporting ourselves in a manner befitting people given the privilege to visit these places,” the statement said.
