By BBN Staff: Belize’s Special Envoy for Women and Children, Kim Simplis Barrow encourages all Belizeans to be a champion for Woman and Girls in Sports.

Barrow continues to be a strong advocate for women and girls and has produced an awareness video on Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

GBV is violence committed against a person or group on the basis of their gender.

Targets of GBV may be female or male, and its effects can be seen in the form of physical, sexual or psychological harm, including threats, coercion, and restriction of freedoms occurring in public or private life.

The video is one of 6 awareness videos completed in partnership with the Football Federation of Belize (FFB).

Simplis Barrow thanks Director of Female Football, Iris Centeno who worked closely with her Office to make the production of the videos a reality.

In the video, the Special Envoy encourages everyone to be champions for women and girls in sports. She also encourages everyone to break the silence surrounding violence.

Violence against women in Belize has become increasingly alarming with the most recent cases of murders of Yanira Novelo and Geraldine Flowers.

At the end of the video, the girls hold hands in unison and encourage everyone to work together to end GBV) in all its forms.

Barrow encourages women to speak out and get help.
