Saprissa eliminates Belmopan Bandits in CONCACAF Champions League, 3-1

Posted: Wednesday, August 7, 2019. 10:11 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: One goal in it after 45 minutes, the Belmopan Bandits seemed on the verge of the biggest ‘smash-and-grab’ in the short history of the CONCACAF Champions League. Instead, home-standing Deportivo Saprissa made sure it was more of the same, concluding with the same score from last week, 3-1.

Jonathan Martinez leveled scores on the night in the 54th minute, and though Georgie Welcome had his chances, Saprissa turned the screws with the introduction of goalscorer Manfred Ugalde.

Christian Bolanos sealed matters by scoring in the 83rd minute and Ugalde converted a penalty conceded by goalkeeper Shane Moody-Orio in added time.

With a 6-2 aggregate, Saprissa moves on to face Aguila, while the Bandits return home to concentrate on the Premier League and defending their national title.
