By BBN Staff: This week, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) released an updated list of key medical devices needed for primary healthcare services.

PAHO’s new list of Priority Medical Devices, released on Wednesday, August 7, has items ranging from clothing and personal protective equipment for health workers to instruments, supplies, solutions, reagents, medical gasses and furniture. It also includes medical equipment such as infant scales, stethoscopes, and vital signs monitors.

“This aims to help countries in the Region of the Americas prioritize critical devices and respond effectively to the main health issues faced by their population,” PAHO said. “The total number of medical devices on the list now reaches 337, of which 208 belong to the core list, 69 in the module for dental care, 30 in the module for diagnostic imaging, and 30 for the laboratory practices module.”

Breaking Belize News (BBN) spoke with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to see where Belize stands with respect to the items on the list; however, the ministry explained that the list is exhaustive and an officer would need to be assigned to review the list before any comment on the matter can be made.
