Belize-Cuba Solidarity group stands with Venezuela as US issues blockade

Posted: Friday, August 9, 2019. 7:54 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Belize-Cuba Solidarity Group issued a statement today in support of the people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, following an executive order signed by United States President Donald Trump effectively “Blocking the property of the government fo Venezuela.”

The Executive Order blocks all property and interests in property of the Government of Venezuela that are within the jurisdiction of the United States. The order also authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of State, to impose sanctions on persons who provide support to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

In its statement, the Belize-Cuba Solidarity Group said that the order is an attempt to fabricate a war against Venezuela to overthrow the
Maduro regime.

“It is a total violation of international law. It is illegal, inhumane and far from helping to solve things, rather it generates a strong negative impact on the people of Venezuela,” the group said.

The group also said that the people of Venezuela have the right to self-determination and that President Maduro is the duly elected president of his country. The group noted that the election which gave Maduro his current mandate was validated by former US President Jimmy Carter, who has a history of monitoring elections.
