By BBN Staff: Inspirational Promotions, the community-based organization that gives free hair cuts to boys and hair braiding for girls going back to school is marking the 10th anniversary of the drive and looking for support to make it memorable.
The drive will take place on August 31 and September 1st at #40 Fabers Road starting off at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m. on both days. Breaking Belize News (BBN) spoke with Edmond Staine, co-founder of Inspirational Promotions, who said that the organization is working with various partners such as the Ministry of Health’s Dental Unit, which will be out there providing basic dental services for the students, and the Belize Family Life Association, which will be offering some basic medical checkups as well as educational material on sexual reproductive health.
Staine said that the organization is still looking for more sponsors because they are hoping to continue the tradition of giving school supplies to the students. Staine and his partner Brian Dena said they started the initiative after recognizing a need for it in the Fabers Road community where they both grew up. They both believe in education being the means by which the children in their area will uplift themselves and chose the trimming drive as a means to help boost student confidence on the first day of school hoping it has an effect on the rest of their school year.
The organization also logs students that attend the drive in a database, to establish a network of support that reaches out to them during the academic year.
