Police: Body of missing fisherman found in an advanced state of decomposition

By BBN Staff: Authorities have confirmed that the body of missing fisherman, Derrick Ramirez was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition in a lagoon south of Dangriga.

On Sunday, August 4, 2019, Ramirez and his relatives were diving near Cross Caye when they were accosted by three men to leave the area.

The threatened men cooperated but while packing their belongings, the three men returned and confronted Ramirez.

One of the men pulled out a firearm and fired several shots at him.

In an attempt to escape, Ramirez ran into some nearby mangroves with the shooter in pursuit.

After the men left, Ramirez’s friends and family tried to locate him but were unsuccessful.

An investigation is ongoing.
