By Aaron Humes: According to 41-year-old Kenneth Flowers, aka “Big Tom,” it’s not for lack of trying. But his efforts to stay out of trouble with the police have not been going well.
Flowers insists he is being harassed by police despite trying to change his life and inspire others to do the same he told Channel 7 News’ Jules Vasquez last week.
But he has now been charged with using indecent words to a police officer during a search an officer conducted on him.
Flowers pleaded not guilty to allegedly telling Police Sergeant David Guzman, on August 10 during the search, words to the effect of “I nuh give ah (expletive), I ready feh dead.”
The charge specifically refers to expletives or “bad word” that makes the offense; it is considered of greater gravity than simply being rude to or insulting a police officer in the course of their duties and interactions.
There was no objection to bail and Magistrate Stephanie Gillett granted bail in the sum of $500 plus one surety of the same which he was able to meet.
Flowers is due back on October 2, 2019, when he is expected to be provided with disclosure in the matter. A date will then be set by the court for his trial.
