By Aaron Humes: The House of Representatives meets this morning in Belmopan.

The House will debate the Belize City Council (Municipal Paper) Bill 2019; Land Tax (Partial Remission of Arrears) Bill 2019; and the National Liquefied Petroleum Gas Project Bill 2019.

Also before the House are five write-off motions for various loss of vehicles and in one case an unpaid loan as well as loan motions for strengthening tax administration; the second Education Quality Improvement Program; and from Taiwan for the upgrading of the Corozal Town to Sarteneja Road and construction of Pueblo Nuevo and Laguna Seca Bridges for US$50 million.

At the start of today’s meeting, prayers and best wishes were offered for the absent Leader of the Opposition, John Briceno, who continues to recover from his injuries sustained in a recent traffic accident and is officially on sick leave.

The Speaker announced her thanks for the support of the recent launch of the Parliamentary Initiative against Hunger and Malnutrition and the upcoming meeting with the press to discuss coverage of meetings, to be held next Tuesday, August 20 at the National Assembly at 10:00 a.m.

We’ll have more throughout the course of the day.
