Triple whammy of guns, ammo, and drugs sends Ladyville fisherman to prison

By Aaron Humes: A Ladyville, Belize District fisherman is headed to jail for three years after taking the rap for an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and marijuana found at his residence.

Police arrested and charged 32-year-old Raymond Lightfoot Dyer; his partner Yanique Morgan, and their friend Henry Young, all of the Ladyville/Lords’ Bank conurbation.

Officers of the Ladyville QRT along with Special Branch and the Mobile Interdiction Team and K9 Unit personnel who were doing operations in the Ladyville area on Wednesday recovered a black Taurus 9-millimeter firearm; eleven live rounds of ammunition and 531 grams (18.7 ounces; 1.17 pounds) of cannabis. All were present inside the home.

Police say that upon their arrival, they saw the hand of a brown skin man with an object in it resembling a gun, who tried to toss the gun through the window; but instead, the gun fell in the same yard.

A search inside the house was done by the team of officers which led them to the discovery of a blue barrel inside one of the rooms occupied by the couple.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer, the trio initially pleaded not guilty to all charges and after the prosecution was searching his diary for a remand date, that is when Dyer changed his not guilty plea to guilty on all counts.

He was sentenced to concurrent terms of three years, a reward for saving court time, and the charges were dropped against Morgan, a mother of a young child, and Young.
