By Aaron Humes: Belize’s men finished fifth today, and the women can finish no higher than 7th, after a disappointing weekend at the 19th Central American Beach Volleyball Championships at Old Belize’s Cucumber Beach.
Emma Hoare and Clare Sabal were swept in their pool matches by teams from El Salvador, Costa Rica and Guatemala in that order. They faced the second team from Guatemala today and were beaten in 2 sets, losing out on an opportunity to finish in fifth place.
Between the men’s teams of Bryton Codd and Francis Hauze, and Michael Jenkins and Edgar Martinez, they could only manage one hard-fought win in pool play, a victory over one of Guatemala’s 2 teams by 21-10, 21-12.
Codd and Hauze recovered today beating Nicaragua this morning and Honduras this afternoon to finish the tournament in fifth place.
Panama pulled out at the last minute due to travel issues.
We’ll have more as the day progresses.
