By BBN Staff: Shyne Barrow, the UDP stand bearer for Mesopotamia in Belize City held his annual basketball tournament at the freshly painted Grace Primary court which Barrow, the National Sports Council, and Bowen & Bowen have fully restored with new rims, backboards, and LED lights.

The Unruly team won the ‘2019 Shyne Barrow Mesopotamia Basketball Tournament’ taking home the 5 ft championship trophy and $1,000.

Baba Shop won 2nd place winning $500 and medals.

Bungi placed 3rd place winning $300 and medals.

Shyne Barrow says he’s committed to using sports as an alternative to crime and violence thus he keeps his Mesopotamia youths engaged with his football camp, volleyball camp, basketball camp, and his annual summer basketball tournament.

Basketball legend Pulu Lightburn was on hand as well as ComPol Chester Williams who has employed community policing measures to keep crime and violence down on South Side Belize City.

Barrow plans to build basketball courts in Taylor’s Alley, George Street, and Armadillo Park as part of his action plan to provide recreational spaces for his constituents.
