The New River is suffering!

By BBN Staff: Belizeans are gravely concerned about the contamination of the New River in Northern Belize.

Several photos have gone viral showing a massive fish kill in the river.

Due to the dead fish, there is a foul smell affecting the quality of life of residents near the river banks.

Responding to constant calls from the community, the Department of the Environment (DOE) has called a public meeting to present information on issues affecting the New River and to give the public the opportunity to voice their concerns on the matter.

The meeting will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019, at the Gala Lounge, located on the Belize/Corozal Road, Orange Walk Town.

The meeting will commence at 7:30 p.m.

The public is invited to participate in this very important meeting.
