By BBN Staff: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Laura Tucker Longsworth, recently attended the 22nd Extraordinary Meeting of Presiding Officers of National Parliaments of Central America and the Caribbean Basin (FOPREL) that was held in the Chamber of the Mexican Senate in Mexico City.
The extraordinary meeting of FOPREL was held on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the regional institution that comprises of Legislative Assemblies/Congresses of Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Belize.
Longsworth also attended the third meeting of FOPREL’s inter-parliamentary Committee for Migration which also had the participation of regional representatives of IOM, OAS, UNICEF, Save The Children, among other organizations.
A regional framework law on migration, with emphasis on human rights, was discussed by the presiding officers at the meeting which was held on Monday, 19th August 2019.
Longsworth was accompanied by the Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Clarita Pech.
