By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is issuing advisories on the newly formed tropical depression five.
As of 11 am today, the tropical depression 5 is centered over the tropical Atlantic Ocean about 805 miles (1300 km) east-southeast of Barbados.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
Interests in the central and northern Lesser Antilles should monitor the progress of this system.
The depression is moving toward the west at 12 miles per hour and this general motion is expected to continue today.
The system is forecasted to move near the central Lesser Antilles on Tuesday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 35 miles per hour with higher gusts.
The system is also expected to become a tropical storm later tonight or tomorrow.
When this occurs, it will be given the name “Dorian” (DOR-ee-an).
