Cyclist Nissan Arana suspended for 4 years for anti-doping violation

Posted: Friday, August 30, 2019. 5:03 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Cycling Federation of Belize today issued a statement saying that it received official information from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) regarding the Anti-Doping Rule Violation by Edgar Nissani Arana during an in-competition doping control in the 91st Holy Saturday Cross Country where there was an adverse analytical finding for the substance Erythropoietin (EPO).

Arana has been suspended for 4 years commencing 20 April, 2019 with a disqualification of all results obtained during the Holy Saturday Cross Country and all results obtained since the start of the period of ineligibility. (i.e. 3rd July, 2019)

The sanction has been established by the UCI in light of the case file provided by the rider.

In light of the foregoing, the UCI requests that the Cycling Federation of Belize withdraws Arana‘s license for the duration of the ban pursuant to Article 12.1.034 of the UCI Cycling Regulations (if applicable).

Finally, it is reminded that in accordance with Article 12.1.034 of the UCI Cycling Regulations upon expiry of a period of suspension, a rider shall not be eligible to participate in cycling events in whatever capacity if he has not fulfilled all his obligations, including financial obligations, under the UCI ADR or under the signed Acceptance of Consequences.
