Belize calls up Honduran-born forward for National Team

By Aaron Humes: This week, according to sports paper Diez of Honduras, forward Carlos Bernardez accepted the invitation of the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) to play for the Belize national team, the Jaguars, in friendlies against St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the forthcoming CONCACAF Nations League games against French Guiana and Grenada.

Bernardez, 26, plays for CD Victoria in the Honduran second tier, the Liga Ascenso. He was born in Honduras to a Honduran mother and Belizean father and holds both nationalities.

The Federation wrote Victoria’s manager to formally request his presence for training from August 30 to September 9.

Bernardez, Diez writes, never played for a youth team and began training with Victoria before going out to rivals Vida on loan for three years, and he plays there currently. He has scored 24 goals in 99 appearances since 2013 for both sides.
