By Aaron Humes: The 29th National Women’s Softball Championship is approaching climax this evening at Rogers Stadium, with the winner likely to come from either of Belize City’s entrants or the sole remaining representative of the Cayo District, the Roaring Creek Grace Kennedy.

As of this writing, Roaring Creek Grace Kennedy are facing off with Belize City Digi, the losers settling for third and the winners facing unbeaten Belize Bank Bulldogs in the final. Roaring Creek is currently leading 7 to 4 at the bottom of the 5th inning.

Under the double elimination format, a loss for the Bulldogs means another game would take place to determine the champion.

Friday night saw the Bulldogs give Bermudian Landing a whipping, 25-0, followed by a 10-7 victory for Unitedville Rebels against Independence United.

Placencia Lady Mermaids opened play on Saturday by defeating Burrell Boom Orchid Girls 17-5, before Roaring Creek edged out Digi 7-6.

Bermudian Landing were then eliminated by Independence, 10-1; Digi knocked out Burrell Boom 14-6, while in the winners’ bracket, Bulldogs took down Unitedville, 8-1, and Roaring Creek beat Placencia, 8-3.

The final match was a rematch between Unitedville and Independence, which saw the Cayo side blank and eliminate the southerners 10-0 in five innings.

The first Sunday matches saw Digi defeat and eliminate Placencia, 9-0; Belize Bank defeated Roaring Creek 8-1.
