National Drug Abuse Control Council says No to Driving Under the Influence of Drugs

Posted: Tuesday, September 3, 2019. 4:40 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Whether it is drugs like marijuana or alcohol, any amount can impair your ability to drive safe.

This week, the National Drug Abuse Control Council of Belize and the Ministry of Health are embarking on a Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (DUID) Campaign from September 4th to 6th, 2019, starting Wednesday outside Punta Gorda Town.

According to a release, this campaign seeks to influence the social perception of DUID by networking with the proper authorities. This will be done through the distribution of informational drug prevention leaflets at checkpoints throughout the country. This effort will act as a prevention strategy as the September Celebrations approaches to spread awareness on the importance of DUID and to encourage responsible behaviour of drivers.

The campaign is in collaboration with the District Transport Departments, the Municipal Transport Departments, and the Police Department.
