Orange Walk Mayor calls on Ministry of Education to intervene due to ‘stench’ at primary school

Posted: Wednesday, September 4, 2019. 8:59 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Mayor of Orange Walk town, Kevin Bernard, is concerned about the health of the children attending La Inmaculada School.

Bernard says that children should wear masks since the air they are breathing is dangerous to their health.

This is due to the stench from the New River.

Bernard is also calling on the Ministry of Education to intervene and make a decision regarding this matter.

“This issue needs to seriously be taken as priority and if our children will suffer this terrible stench then is postponing classes an option?” Bernard says.

Bernard is also appealing to the Ministry of Health and the Department of the Environment to address the health matters related to this issue at the New River.
