Over 2,400 dengue cases detected in Belize

Posted: Wednesday, September 4, 2019. 3:58 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Office of the Director of Health Services is closely monitoring dengue cases in Belize.

Current data up to week 35 indicate that the total number of dengue cases countrywide is at 2,470 cases.

Out of the total number, 1,357 were laboratory confirmed.

Orange Walk, Stann Creek and Cayo Districts continue to see increasing numbers in dengue cases.

Numbers have stabilized in the northern districts and lower numbers are being reported in the Belize and Toledo Districts.

“We haven’t seen an increase in number of severe cases but we must continue our efforts to eliminate breeding sites across the country,” a statement from the Office of Director of Health Services said.

The public is advised to be on the alert for Dengue and Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever.

Belizeans are encouraged to eliminate any mosquito breeding sites which might exist in and around their homes.
