San Victor: Angry mob runs police out of village

Posted: Monday, September 9, 2019. 6:55 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Early last week police officers were in San Victor when they saw a pick up coming from the Rio Hondo area.

Officers brought the vehicle to a stop when two men in the back of the truck ran into the nearby bushes.

Officers suspecting that the truck was loaded with contraband goods attempted to get the support of Customs Official.

However, while doing so villagers began to attack the law enforcement officials with bottles and rocks.

Over forty villagers descended on the four officers.

One of them had to fire his service weapon into the crowd in order to escape.

The four officers were later treated for various injuries.

On Friday an investigative team visited the area where they learnt that a man identified as Roberto Novelo had been injured.

He was receiving treatment at a medical facility in Chetumal.

He told police that he was shot while trying to pacify the angry crowd. He has refused to provide additional information.

And so with little information, the investigation remains ongoing.
