Dengue cases soar to over 3,000!

By BBN Staff: The Office of the Director of Health just released the figures for number of dengue cases countrywide.

Up to September 7, 2019, the Ministry of Health had documented a total of 3,115 cases countrywide with 1,345 of these being by clinical suspicion, the remaining 1,770 as confirmed cases.

In descending order, the districts with the higher rates are Orange Walk, Stann Creek and Cayo with the other 3 districts still reporting much lower numbers.

A total of 2.3% of all cases have been severe.

The Ministry warns that with the projected increase in rainfall over the next set of weeks, the numbers could spike up again if we let our guard down in terms of the elimination of mosquito breeding sites.

The public is advised to be on the alert for Dengue and Dengue Hemorraghic Fever.
