Boy who becomes adult on Saturday charged for ‘unlawful sex’ with minor

By Aaron Humes: The attorney of a boy, 17, who reportedly becomes an adult on Saturday (he turns 18), today successfully got him bail on a charge of unlawful sexual intercourse.

The university student is alleged to have had sex with a minor girl, 13, in July in Belmopan.

He appeared before Senior Magistrate Merlene Moody a week ago to be read the charge and was denied bail at the time due to the nature of the offense.

Today, there was no objection from the Crown.

The court granted bail of $5,000 and a surety provided he report to the Belmopan Police Station once a week, surrender his travel documents; he also cannot leave the country without the permission of a judge of the Supreme Court and he must attend all his court dates including his next court appearance set for December 11, 2019.
