Tropical depression forms near The Bahamas

By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has upgraded the potential tropical cyclone nine to tropical depression nine.

A tropical storm warning continues for the Northwest Bahamas excluding Andros Island.

Tropical storm conditions are expected tonight and early Saturday.

A tropical storm watch continues for Jupiter Inlet to Flagler-Volusia County line, Florida.

Tropical storm conditions are still possible by Saturday or Saturday night.

The center of tropical depression nine was located about 240 miles (385 km) east-southeast of Freeport, Grand Bahama Island.

It’s moving toward the northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h).

The depression is forecasted to take a turn toward the north-northwest on Saturday.

The system is anticipated to move near the northwestern Bahamas tonight and Saturday, and east of the east coast of Florida during Saturday and Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 30 miles per hour with higher gusts.

The system is forecasted to strengthen during the next 48 hours and become Tropical Storm Humberto.
