By Aaron Humes: After an international break, the Premier League of Belize returned to close out its first round of the tournament this weekend.
On Saturday night, Belmopan Bandits, top side despite having played a game less, crushed bottom side Freedom Fighters/Valley Pride F.C. 6-2 at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in the capital.
Belize Defence Force played Placencia Assassins to a 1-1 draw at the MCC Grounds today, Sunday; Verdes brought down high-flying Altitude 5-1 at the Norman Broaster Stadium; and Wagiya were defeated 2-1 by San Pedro Pirates at the Carl Ramos Stadium down south.
The match between Verdes and Bandits postponed from last week has yet to be rescheduled and is the only remaining first round match. It will go a long way to deciding top seeding in the playoffs in November.
Bandits and Verdes remain tied on 16 points; Altitude and San Pedro have ten; B.D.F., Wagiya and Placencia all show six and Valley Pride have none.
On Independence weekend the games look like this: Altitude host Placencia at Michael Ashcroft Stadium at 7:30, while Bandits take on San Pedro in Belmopan at 8. On Sunday afternoon, BDF host Verdes in the City and Wagiya face Valley Pride in Dangriga.
