KHMH opens newly renovated waiting area at A&E

By BBN Staff: The Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) officially opened the renovated waiting area at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department this morning.

The renovation, which took approximately 10 weeks to finish, cost the hospital some $26,000, of which $15,000 came from the Belize Hospital Auxillary (the snack shop at the front of the hospital) and the remaining funds approved from the board of the KHMH Authority.

Michelle Cox-Hoare, Chief Executive Officer of the KHMH, said that the renovation was geared towards increasing patient comfort and flow, but also had a practical purpose.

“In the past we used to have patients having to come out of the facility exit and come back in to get to the cashier, so now we put in a dual window in there with a cashier,” she explained.

The new area will also allow the triage nurse to have full view of the patients waiting to be served, and give patients the assurance that there is a nurse on duty waiting to see them.
