National Student Union calls on authorities to take action before it’s too late

Posted: Monday, September 16, 2019. 10:13 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The National Student Union of Belize (NSUB) issued a statement expressing it’s deepest condolences to the families of Christopher Chi and Adamir “Mia” Choc.

“We lament these agonizing and unfortunate incidents that have recently occurred and we strongly condemn all forms of violence and crime committed against our youths and students,” the union notes.

The union says that recently, crime against youths in our country has spiraled out of control and it is imperative that our justice system treats each and every one as a high priority case.

The union says that the lives of future leaders and citizens are being cut short without being given the opportunity of making a life for themselves.

“There is the case of the 14-year-old, San Pedro student, Roberto Nah, who has been missing since September 11, 2019 and nothing is being heard from anyone in regards to the search for him,” the group notes.

The student union urges all Belizeans to demand justice and have these perpetrators pay for their crimes in the full force of the law and as fellow Belizeans, we must also look out for one another to ensure our overall safety and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

The students made a call to all relevant authorities to take action before we grow into a nation of people who are too afraid to walk the streets of our home.

Additionally, all youth and students are encouraged to take all necessary but legal actions to ensure their safety and security.

“Finally, we pray that God guides and protects all our youths who will inherit our beautiful Belize so that in the future we can still boast about the beauty and hopefully the security of our Jewel. The time to act is now; end the violence towards our youths,” the statement ends.
